Prophetess Naomi Shikemi, the former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, is currently in police custody following her role as the principal organizer of a funfair in Ibadan that tragically resulted in the death of multiple children.
The incident, which occurred at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Oyo State, led to a stampede that claimed the lives of about 32 children and left several others severely injured. The event took place on Wednesday, leaving the community in mourning.
Reports indicate that Naomi and an Ibadan-based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hazmat, were accused of sponsoring the ill-fated event, which has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
Confirming Naomi’s status, Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, stated that she was invited by the police and has cooperated by honoring the invitation. “She is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation,” Osifeso said.
The investigation aims to uncover the circumstances that led to the tragic stampede and determine accountability for the loss of young lives.
