OPWS commander Uwa, Vows to maintain peace in Taraba

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in Taraba State and neighboring areas.

In a statement released by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Uwa highlighted proactive measures taken by the Nigerian Army to curb criminal activities during the ongoing harvest season and the forthcoming festive period. The initiatives, codenamed Operation Golden Peace, have targeted notorious bandit hideouts and bolstered community safety.

The operations successfully dismantled criminal strongholds around Lijem high ground in Takum Local Government Area and extended to areas near the power line in Vingiri and Vingir villages. According to Uwa, the efforts have increased confidence among local residents and disrupted criminal activities.

Subsequent missions carried out on November 29 and 30 focused on hotspots including Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages. These operations targeted terrorist camps, such as New Gboko and Che Adekpe, linked to the wanted criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also known as Boujogh. Fierce engagements resulted in the bandits retreating under superior firepower from the troops.

Several bandit camps were destroyed, and items recovered included 27 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, a Baofeng handheld radio, and two motorcycles. The operation extended further into Akume and Ananum in Donga Local Government Area, ensuring the safety of residents in those regions.

Brigadier General Uwa commended local communities for their cooperation and urged them to remain vigilant while providing timely information to security agencies. He emphasized that the military remains committed to protecting lives and property in Taraba State.

“Together, we will ensure lasting peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” Uwa assured.
