The Osun State Government, in collaboration with labour leaders, has approved the implementation of the new National Minimum Wage of ₦75,554.28 for all categories of workers, including local government employees. The new wage structure will take effect from December 1, 2024.
This announcement was made on Friday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi. The decision follows extensive negotiations between representatives of the state government and organised labour.
In the statement, Alimi revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke also approved a ₦25,000 monthly pension enhancement for all pensioners across the state, recognizing the challenges faced by senior citizens.
“The decision to implement the new minimum wage and pension enhancement reflects the Adeleke administration’s commitment to prioritizing workers and pensioners under its Five-Point Agenda,” the statement read. “This move aims to ensure a productive and motivated public service, ultimately driving effective and efficient service delivery in the state.”
The government explained that the implementation followed rigorous deliberations that considered factors such as revenue availability, forecasts, existing debt obligations, and sustainability to guarantee the continued growth of Osun State.
Key points of the announcement include:
Effective Date: The new minimum wage takes effect from December 1, 2024, with one month’s arrears to be paid.
All public servants, including local government employees, are beneficiaries.
Other Salary Structures: These will be reviewed and addressed in due course.
The statement also urged workers to reciprocate the governor’s gesture with renewed commitment to service delivery.
