PDP Declares Ugochinyere’s Expulsion Null and Void, Reaffirms Membership

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nullified the expulsion of Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State, deeming it invalid and ineffective.

The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) dismissed the expulsion, which had been announced by Ugochinyere’s Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward chapter over allegations of gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.

The expulsion letter, signed by Ideato Local Government Area PDP Chairman ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh, was reportedly based on a November 27, 2024, disciplinary committee report citing misconduct under Section 57 of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).

Ugochinyere had previously been suspended by his ward on October 14, 2024, after failing to appear before the ward executive committee regarding the allegations. Despite multiple invitations, the lawmaker did not respond.

However, the PDP NWC, in a statement issued Saturday by its spokesman Debo Ologunagba, insisted that Ugochinyere remains a full member of the party, entitled to all rights and privileges. The statement declared the expulsion “null and void” for failing to comply with Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the party’s Constitution.

“The NWC declares the said purported expulsion as null and void and of no effect, not being consistent with the express provision of Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017) and laid down Rules of our great Party,” Ologunagba stated.

Meanwhile, Imo PDP local government chairmen reaffirmed Ugochinyere’s leadership in the state, passing a vote of confidence in him as the highest-ranking elected official from the PDP in Imo. They also called for the immediate removal of the party’s Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, advocating for a reinvigorated leadership structure to strengthen the opposition in the state.
