Police Arrest Suspected Burglar for Stealing Valuables Worth N7 Million in Ogun

Police operatives in Ogun State have apprehended a suspected burglar, Awolesi Precious, accused of stealing items worth over N7 million from a lounge located within the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The suspect was arrested by officers from the Harmony Division, situated within the university campus, while attempting to transport a Firman generator valued at N1.2 million around 3:00 am on January 1, 2025.

According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, Awolesi initially claimed he had rented the generator from a sound engineer for N12,500 to use at an event. However, under further questioning, he confessed to stealing the generator from Chilbay Entertainment Lounge, where a prior burglary had occurred.

Odutola revealed that additional stolen items included:

  • Four 32-inch televisions
  • One 50-inch television
  • Assorted wines and liquors worth N6 million
  • Several packs of malts, beverages, energy drinks
  • A microwave oven

“During a search of the suspect’s apartment, all the stolen items, except the televisions, were recovered,” Odutola said.

The police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.
