Police raids illegal Gun Factories in Benue, seizes weapons

The Benue State Police Command has discovered two gun manufacturing factories in Guma and Kwande local government areas. This was revealed in a statement on Tuesday by the state Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet.

Acting on credible intelligence about illegal arms production in Mbaafa, Adikpo, Kwande LGA, police detectives launched an investigation. On January 11, they raided a gun factory in Mbaafa, arresting two suspects, Friday Aduduakamve and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as AK-35. The raid led to the recovery of nine fabricated pistols, an unfinished AK-47 rifle, and other weapons.

In another operation, the police uncovered a second gun factory in Daudu, Guma LGA. Investigations identified 50-year-old Meme Ihoon as a key suspect in supplying short arms to kidnappers, armed robbers, and cultists in the area. Ihoon was arrested on January 10, and six dane guns along with three long pipes used for making firearms were recovered from his residence.

The suspect admitted to producing and selling arms. Police investigations are ongoing to track down other individuals involved in the operation.
