The newly installed Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, has been called upon to prioritize reconciliation and unity in the aftermath of his emergence as king.
This appeal was made by the Asiwaju of Ijesaland, Yinka Fasuyi, in a congratulatory message issued on Monday. Fasuyi acknowledged that the selection process may not have been flawless but emphasized the importance of unity and peace for the progress of Ijesaland.
He encouraged Oba Haastrup to reach out to other contestants for the throne, particularly from the Bilaro Ruling House, to mend any rifts caused by the royal contest. Fasuyi also urged the aggrieved parties to set aside their differences for the greater good of the community.
“The selection process of our new Imperial Majesty, Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, may not have been 100% perfect. However, as Ijesas, we owe it a duty to protect and preserve the values that distinguish us as a forward-looking people,” the statement read.
He further stated, “I trust that our new Imperial Majesty will heal all perceived wounds by promptly initiating a reconciliation process with other contestants from his Bilaro Ruling House. The developmental challenges ahead of him are enormous and demanding, and we cannot afford to distract him. I appeal to all aggrieved parties to sheath their swords so that we can collectively sustain the progress of Ijesaland.”
Oba Haastrup officially received his Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment during a grand ceremony in Ilesa on Sunday. The event, which was attended by prominent Nigerians from various walks of life, was presided over by Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.
In his inaugural address, Oba Haastrup vowed to tackle the issue of land grabbing within his domain, promising to restore order and safeguard the community’s resources.
The new Owa Obokun succeeds the late Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, who passed away on September 11, 2024, at the age of 86.
