Pro-Democracy Activist Zubair arrested in Kano over social media post

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested Zubair, an organizer of the Take-It-Back Movement (TIB) in Kano State, sparking concerns about freedom of expression.

According to the pro-democracy group, Zubair was taken into custody in the early hours of Thursday, allegedly in connection with a Facebook post critical of the government. Sources indicate that he is being transferred to Abuja for further questioning.

The Take-It-Back Movement has called for Zubair’s immediate and unconditional release, emphasizing the importance of protecting citizens’ rights to free speech. The group shared on its social media platforms, “Our organizer in Kano, Zubair, was arrested by the DSS earlier today. The reason for his arrest remains unclear, but sources suggest it is linked to a government-critical Facebook post.”

The incident has reignited discussions about the balance between national security and civil liberties in Nigeria.
