SEDC: Tinubu sacks Emeka Atuma, appoints new Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has reviewed the management of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), making significant changes to its leadership.

Hon. Emeka Atuma has been relieved of his position as chairman, with Emeka Nworgu now taking over the role.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also replaced all three previously nominated executive directors and appointed two additional directors. Among other changes, Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa has been removed as a board member.

Hon. Mark C. Okoye retains his position as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer on the newly expanded 16-member board, which now includes one additional member compared to the initial board. Stanley Ohajuruka has been appointed as the new executive director for finance, replacing Anthony Ugbo. Toby Okechukwu takes over as executive director of projects from Obinna Obiekweihe, while Chief Sylvester Okonkwo has been named the executive director of corporate services, succeeding Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja.

Two new executive directors without portfolios, Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede, have also been included. Several board members retained their positions, including Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo. Additional nominees retained are Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma.

All the nominations are subject to Senate confirmation. According to Onanuga, President Tinubu expects the new leadership team to leverage their expertise and experience to fulfill the Commission’s mandate and drive the development of the Southeast region.
