Speed Darlington Arrested by Police in Owerri, Lawyer Confirms

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has confirmed the arrest of his client, musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or AKPI, by the Nigerian police in Owerri, Imo State.

In a statement on his official Facebook page, Adeyanju disclosed that Speed Darlington was taken into custody during a show following his return to Nigeria. “Our client Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” he wrote.

While the exact reason for the arrest remains unclear, reports suggest it may be linked to allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy. SaharaReporters previously reported that Speed Darlington had been detained at the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) facility in Guzape, Abuja.

Adeyanju, who visited the musician during his detention, revealed that the arrest followed a petition reportedly filed by Burna Boy. Speed Darlington was initially apprehended in Lagos and subsequently moved between various police formations before being transferred to Abuja by the IRT.

The arrest has sparked discussions about the use of cyberstalking allegations and the role of law enforcement in handling disputes among public figures. Adeyanju has yet to provide further updates on the legal steps being taken to address the matter.
