For the fourth consecutive year, Nigerian artists have claimed the spotlight on Spotify’s list of the top 10 most-streamed acts in Sub-Saharan Africa, underscoring the nation’s deep connection to its homegrown talent.
Asake emerged as the most-streamed artist in the region, particularly in Nigeria, Gambia, and Benin. His music resonated across generations, captivating listeners aged 13 to 55+, alongside Burna Boy, Shallipopi, and Seyi Vibez, who also secured spots in the top 10.
Rising stars Ayo Maff and Muyeez lit up the most-streamed tracks list with hits like Dealer and Instagram, signaling a promising future for Nigerian music.
Young Jonn’s Aquafina and Stronger further cemented his influence, while Burna Boy’s Higher demonstrated his consistency. The vibrant mix of emerging talents and established icons continues to drive the industry forward.
“Spotify is proud to celebrate the richness of Nigerian music and its extraordinary artists through Wrapped each year,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa. “The seamless blend of generations and genres highlights the unique power of Nigerian music to connect with audiences locally and globally. It’s inspiring to see how our artists are not only shaping culture at home but also gaining international recognition.”
In a surprising twist, Young Jonn’s Jiggy Forever topped the most-streamed album list, followed by Asake’s Lungu Boy. Odumodu’s Eziokwu made a strong return, while Rema’s HEIS and Asake’s Work of Art secured top spots, with the latter staging a notable comeback.
Burna Boy’s global impact remains unmatched, as he continues to be Nigeria’s most-exported artist and the only Nigerian featured on the UK’s Top 100 chart. Ayra Starr, another rising global star and Spotify RADAR alumna, is carving her own path. She’s the top female artist in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya, the most-streamed Nigerian artist in Latin America, and the top Nigerian female artist in Europe.
With performances alongside Coldplay and Chris Brown, Ayra Starr also holds the record for the longest time spent on Spotify’s global chart, surpassing even Rema and Burna Boy.
Beyond music, Nigerian listeners are embracing a diverse podcast scene. Apostle Femi Lazarus leads the pack, followed by motivational shows like Success Addicted Podcast, featuring voices like Earl Nightingale and Jim Rohn. Other favorites include The Honest Bunch Podcast, Apostle Joshua Selman, and Cycasmotivation’s Podcast.
