The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to school principals in Abuja against taking students out of classrooms to welcome officials during visits.
Wike delivered the warning during the inauguration of a 9.8-kilometer road construction project from Kabusa to Takushara at the Government Secondary School Kabusa on Tuesday.
The minister criticized the practice of lining students along roads for ceremonial purposes, urging school heads to focus on the students’ education and welfare instead. He stated, “This is not our culture, and this will be the last time this happens. No school should bring students out to line up on roads. Our children deserve better.”
During his visit, Wike expressed strong dissatisfaction with the poor state of the school’s infrastructure.
Remember METROBLOG reported the FCT minister ordered immediate rehabilitation and upgrade of the secondary school, instructing his Chief of Staff, Mr. Chidi Amadi, to work with the FCTA Director of Procurement to ensure swift action.
“The government of Bola Tinubu will not tolerate this, and I will not tolerate this. This is not acceptable as a school for our children to receive quality education. The immediate upgrading of this school is non-negotiable,” he said.
Wike also emphasized the potential embarrassment if higher authorities saw the school in its current condition, jokingly remarking, “If Mr. President were to visit and see this, I might lose my job. I can’t afford that, so this must be fixed immediately.”
The minister’s remarks highlight his commitment to improving education standards and eliminating unnecessary disruptions to students’ learning environments in the FCT.
