Babafemi Ojudu, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to the presidency, has expressed doubts about President Bola Tinubu’s suitability to lead Nigeria at this time.
Speaking on Edmund Obilo’s podcast State Affairs on Monday, Ojudu stated that, based on his close working relationship with Tinubu in the past, the president’s philosophy does not align with what the country currently needs.
Ojudu also praised former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, describing him as a visionary leader who would have propelled Nigeria to greater heights if given the opportunity.
“The country would have achieved significant progress under Osinbajo,” Ojudu said. “He had the vision and the capacity to lead Nigeria effectively, but that opportunity didn’t come.”
Criticizing the philosophy behind Tinubu’s leadership slogan, Emi Lokan (translated as “It’s my turn”), Ojudu remarked, “Having worked closely with the principal behind Emi Lokan and based on my experiences at the National Assembly and the presidency, I believe that this philosophy is not appropriate for Nigeria at this moment.”
He continued, “Osinbajo was the right person to govern Nigeria at that time. He is a visionary leader. For anyone to successfully run this country, they must not act alone but collaborate with a team that shares the same vision.
“You cannot lead effectively as a president if your Inspector General of Police, Head of Customs, Immigration Chief, or Chief Justice of Nigeria does not align with your ideals and vision. Leadership must be collective and purposeful.”
Ojudu’s comments add to ongoing debates about the leadership direction of Nigeria and the challenges facing the country under the current administration.
