Two Dead, 15 Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash, FRSC Confirms

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal accident that claimed two lives and left 15 others injured on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The incident, which occurred at Saapade around 4:34 p.m., was reported by Mrs. Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, in Abeokuta on Thursday. According to her, the crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number LSR 585 YH. The accident was attributed to a tyre burst, which caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the bus somersaulting.

The crash involved 18 passengers, comprising nine men, five women, two boys, and two girls. Of these, 15 sustained injuries, including eight men, four women, two boys, and one girl. Tragically, two passengers—a man and a woman—lost their lives.

The injured victims were rushed to PATMAG Hospital in Ogere for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State General Hospital morgue in Isara.

Mrs. Okpe stressed the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly tyre checks, to prevent similar incidents. The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwunmi Fasakin, also advised motorists to exercise greater caution, especially during periods of heavy vehicular movement.
