Bandit Leader Kachalla Dogo Killed as rival gangs clashed in Kaduna forest

A notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Dogo Isah, who is responsible for the deadly attacks in Kaduna State, was reportedly killed in a violent clash with a rival faction of repentant bandits.

According to reports, the conflict took place in Kachia Forest on January 7, 2025, when Dogo Isah and his gang attempted to rustle livestock from a camp led by the repentant bandit leader, Kachalla Musa.

However, the confrontation escalated quickly, resulting in the death of  Dogo Isah, according to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counterinsurgency expert in the Lake Chad region who published the news on his X handle.

Dogo Isah was notorious for his reign of terror in Kachia and sections of Kajuru local government districts, where he and his gang caused havoc in local communities.

He was also the cousin of Tukur Sharme, another well-known bandit commander, who was killed in a similar fratricidal clash in September 2024.

According to Zagazola, Dogo Isah was killed along with two of his gang members after a gunfight with the group led by Kachalla Musa. Following a meeting with local stakeholders in Tsohon Gaya village, Chikun LGA, Kachalla Musa and his faction agreed to a peace initiative launched by the government and security forces in Kaduna State.

It was discovered that the campaign encouraged former bandits to surrender and stop their violent actions. Meanwhile, the offer was extended to Dogo Isah, who declined and continued his illegal activities, which included cattle rustling and brutal assaults.

His organization was purportedly responsible for multiple high-profile attacks in the region, including the assassination of members of the 305 Artillery Demo Regiment in Makaranta Forest, Kagarko LGA, and an officer of the defunct Sect 4 OPWP near Gadan Mallam village on the Abuja-Kaduna Road in 2022.

In a more recent attack, Dogo Isah’s organization ambushed Nigerian Navy forces at a checkpoint in Kujama on January 5, 2025, killing two officers and taking their AK-47 weapons.

While Dogo Isah’s killing is regarded as a big setback for insurgent activity in Kaduna, it has raised concerns among members of Kachalla Musa’s recently grieved group.
