Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has criticized the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, for claiming that the party will take over Oyo and Osun States in the South-West.
Makinde made the remark in response to Ganduje’s statement following the APC’s recent victory in Ondo State, where Lucky Aiyedatiwa retained his position as governor. Ganduje had expressed confidence that the APC would win all South-West states, declaring Oyo and Osun as the next targets.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Stadium Roundabout/Oke Baale Roundabout/Ilesa Garage Roundabout dual carriageway in Osogbo, Osun State, Makinde dismissed Ganduje’s comments, emphasizing the resolve of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the people of Oyo and Osun to reject the APC.
He highlighted the decision of Osun residents in 2022 to switch their political allegiance to the PDP as evidence of their dissatisfaction with the APC.
“The people of Osun must always come first, and they have shown that. Two years ago, they made a clear political choice by moving from one party to the PDP,” Makinde said.
Taking a jab at Ganduje, he added, “It seems someone got carried away after the Edo and Ondo elections and now claims they are coming for Osun and Oyo. People of Osun and Oyo, are you not ready for them? You will show them.”
Makinde’s remarks reflect confidence in his party’s standing in the region and serve as a reminder of the political shift that brought the PDP to power in Osun State.
