Wike dismiss Claims of Executive Interference in Judiciary Infrastructure

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations that the FCT Administration’s (FCTA) provision of infrastructure for the judiciary amounts to executive interference.

He emphasized that the FCTA also supports the National Assembly with similar projects, highlighting the importance of collaboration in governance.

Wike made these remarks on Friday during the inauguration of the design, construction, and furnishing of an annex office for the Body of Benchers in Abuja.

He stated, “The Federal Capital Territory is responsible for providing the official residence of the legislature and building the new National Assembly complex. These projects will ultimately be handed over to the respective arms of government for management. This is about fostering development, not interference.”

The minister explained that the annex office project for the Body of Benchers was part of the FCT’s 2023 supplementary budget, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and passed by the National Assembly.

“This initiative was included in the supplementary budget signed by Mr. President on November 8, 2023. There is complete transparency in this process,” Wike affirmed, thanking President Tinubu for his support.

He assured stakeholders that the project would be completed within 10 months and announced plans to build residential apartments for lecturers at the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, a project that has already received presidential approval.

In response to a request from the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, Wike pledged to construct a fire station to serve institutions in the area. He directed that the project be included in the FCT’s 2025 budget.

Earlier, Awomolo commended President Tinubu and Wike for their dedication to improving judicial infrastructure. He emphasized the interdependence of the three arms of government, stating, “No arm of government is sufficiently equipped to function independently. Collaboration with the Executive is necessary and does not compromise the independence of other arms of government.”

The initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to supporting all arms of government through infrastructure development and collaboration.
