The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate rehabilitation and upgrade of the Government Secondary School, Kabusa.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the inauguration of the construction of a 9.8-kilometer road connecting Kabusa to Takushara.
While addressing the gathering at the school’s permanent site, Wike criticized the current state of the school, describing the one-story block housing the students as inadequate for delivering quality education. He assured residents that the facility would be transformed into a standard school the FCT Administration (FCTA) could take pride in.
“This building cannot be called a school. I will not accept this as a place for our children to receive quality education,” Wike stated. “I am, therefore, ordering an immediate upgrade of this facility so our children can have access to the best education possible.”
Wike also condemned the practice of bringing schoolchildren to line up along roads to welcome government officials. He described it as unnecessary and unacceptable, directing school principals to refrain from such practices in the future.
“It is not in our culture, and this will be the last time we allow students to be subjected to standing in the sun to receive any of us. Our children deserve better,” he said.
The minister instructed his Chief of Staff, Mr. Chidi Amadi, to collaborate with the FCTA’s Director of Procurement to develop a plan for the school’s immediate rehabilitation. The initiative is part of the administration’s broader commitment to improving education and infrastructure within the FCT.
