Woman Dies Following Assault in Cork City Centre

A woman in her 30s, identified as 36-year-old Vanessa O’Callaghan, has tragically passed away following an assault in Cork city centre on Sunday evening.

Ms. O’Callaghan, who had been accessing homeless services for several years, succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.

The incident occurred near the Savoy Cinema on St. Patrick’s Street, where she was found unresponsive following an altercation near a soup kitchen. Gardaí (Irish police) confirmed that the assault took place between 7:15 pm and 8:15 pm local time.

Authorities have launched an investigation and are appealing for information from the public. They urge witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage from the area during the specified time to come forward.

This tragic event has drawn attention to the vulnerable circumstances faced by individuals experiencing homelessness in the region.
