A woman identified as Olamide Thomas was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday for allegedly threatening Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with death in a viral social media post.
The arraignment, initiated by the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, took place before Justice Emeka Nwite on a three-count charge.
Olamide’s charges stem from allegations of harassment and death threats targeting Seyi Tinubu, Inspector-General Egbetokun, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, through a video she allegedly posted on social media platforms. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024, was filed on December 18 by a police legal team led by A.A. Egwu.
During the hearing, Victor Okoye, representing the police, confirmed readiness to proceed with the arraignment. After the charges were read, Olamide pleaded not guilty. Her defense counsel, T.J. Aondo, SAN, requested an oral bail application, but Justice Nwite declined, directing the filing of a formal bail application instead.
The judge adjourned the trial to December 30, assuring the defense that any bail motion filed would be heard promptly. In the meantime, Olamide was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
The charges against her highlight three instances of alleged threats. In the first count, she was accused of transmitting a video in which she claimed that Seyi Tinubu would die within the year, allegedly with intent to threaten and harass him, causing fear of harm.
The second count involves a similar threat directed at Egbetokun, while the third count accuses her of threatening Muyiwa Adejobi by stating his children would all die before his eyes. These offenses were said to contravene Section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
