Residents of Unguwar Yargaladima in Zamfara State have challenged claims by the police attributing recent bomb explosions along the Gusau-Dansadau road to Lakurawa terrorists.
The explosions, which occurred on occasions, resulted in multiple fatalities.
A local resident, Mallam Ibrahim Usman, dismissed the police’s initial claim, asserting that the attacks were orchestrated by a notorious local bandit leader, Dogo Gide, and his gang. Speaking to journalists in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Usman accused the police of withholding the truth about the events.
“This attack has nothing to do with Lakurawa terrorists,” he said during a phone interview. “It was planned and executed by Dogo Gide’s group. They have been targeting our community in retaliation for the recent killing of another bandit leader, Sani Black, by villagers in our area.”
Usman explained that the explosives were strategically planted after Gide’s gang learned that security personnel were en route to protect the community. He further clarified that Lakurawa terrorists, described as foreign militants from Niger Republic and Mali, operate separately from the Fulani bandits native to Zamfara State.
“These bandits belong to the late Buharin Daji’s faction, now led by Dogo Gide. They are locals, unlike the Lakurawa group mentioned by the police,” Usman added.
The allegations underscore the complex dynamics of insecurity in Zamfara State, where local and foreign groups often operate with overlapping agendas, leaving residents caught in the crossfire.
