30 passengers dead, others missing in a tragic boat accident in Delta state

A devastating boat accident in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West, Delta State, has left over 30 passengers dead, including a one-year-old child whose body was later found floating in the creek. Many others remain missing, and rescue efforts continue, though hopes of finding more survivors are dwindling.

The incident occurred when a speedboat returning from a burial ceremony struck a submerged log, causing it to capsize. Most passengers, who lacked life jackets and were unable to swim, were thrown into the river. Witnesses described the tragic scene, recounting how the boat, traveling at high speed, collided with the obstacle, leaving passengers struggling to stay afloat.

The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, assured the public that further details would be provided as investigations into the accident continue.
