
Olusegun Obasanjo celebrates his 88th birthday in Great Manner.
Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, marked his 88th birthday today march 5th 2025 with a grand celebration attended by top dignitaries, political figures, traditional rulers, and business moguls.
The high-profile event took place at The Delborough Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, where influential personalities gathered to honor the elder statesman. Among the distinguished guests were:
- Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience
- Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar
- Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and his wife, Toyin
- The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi
- Business magnate Razaq Akanni Okoya and his wife, Shade
- Former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha
Socialites such as E-Money, Obi Cubana, and Cubana Chief Priest also graced the occasion, adding to the event’s prominence.

In commemoration of the milestone, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid tribute to Obasanjo, describing him as an “extraordinary leader and statesman” whose impact on Nigeria’s development remains significant.
In his statement, Tinubu:
- Recognized Obasanjo’s decades of service and role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
- Acknowledged that while some of Obasanjo’s interventions have been controversial, they have influenced public policy and leadership accountability.
- Recalled his military service, including his role in ending the Nigerian Civil War in 1970 and his leadership after the assassination of General Murtala Muhammed in 1976, which led to a smooth democratic transition in 1979.
- Praised his tenure as Nigeria’s president from 1999 to 2007, noting that his administration laid the foundation for the Fourth Republic, which has endured for 25 years.
Beyond his time in office, Obasanjo has remained a respected global figure, playing key roles in conflict resolution, governance advocacy, and diplomatic engagements across Africa and beyond.

Tinubu lauded him as a “global peace ambassador and troubleshooter,” citing his commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region.
“At 88, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo remains strong and active. I pray that God grants him more years of wisdom and strength so that Nigeria and Africa can continue to benefit from his wealth of experience,” Tinubu stated.
