Lagos Police nabs Fourth suspect, uncovers shallow grave of Missing LASU Graduate

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a shallow grave that has been confirmed to be the burial location of Adedamola Ogunbode, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, after the arrest of the prime suspect, Olaoluwa Ajisomo. Initially believed to have fled to the Benin Republic, Ajisomo was apprehended and is now assisting detectives in identifying the exact site where Ogunbode was buried.

Confirming the development, the command’s spokesperson, Chief Superintendent of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the arrest and ongoing investigation had been verified. Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, had been missing since January 16, 2025, with unconfirmed reports suggesting his mutilated remains had been discovered.

Last Friday, the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspects while confirming that five others remained at large in connection with Ogunbode’s murder. Among those in custody is Whepetoji Sunday, a pastor accused of receiving ₦70,000 from the victim’s account, and Sheriff Adebayo, a church member who allegedly received ₦300,000. The suspect’s mother, Omolara Ajisomo, was also arrested for allegedly helping her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, flee after each reportedly withdrew ₦300,000 from Ogunbode’s account.

Following threats of a statewide protest by the students’ union, Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. Hundeyin later confirmed that Ajisomo was arrested on Monday morning in the Alakuko area of Lagos. He added that the suspect had used Ogunbode’s mobile phone to clear his bank account.

Hundeyin dismissed social media speculation that the victim’s grave was located on church premises, clarifying that it was within the community. He also disclosed that the church attended by the arrested cleric had been sealed off due to intelligence reports of a planned arson attack in retaliation for the crime.

Meanwhile, a source involved in the investigation revealed that police detectives were en route to exhume Ogunbode’s remains from a shallow grave after Ajisomo reportedly confessed to the killing. When contacted for confirmation, Hundeyin responded with a single word: “Confirmed.”
