A man identified as Abdulrasheed Usman reportedly slumped and died while breaking his Ramadan fast in the Kutunku area of Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to eyewitness Suleiman Bala, the tragic incident occurred on Saturday while Usman was eating fruits with three of his friends.
Bala recounted that Usman was seated on a bench when he suddenly collapsed. His friends immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital on a motorcycle, but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
The witness added that Usman had just returned from Kaduna around 5:47 p.m. and had gone to meet his friends for iftar (the breaking of fast) when the incident happened.
“One of his brothers said the deceased returned from Kaduna and went to meet his friends where they usually relaxed. When the Maghrib prayer was called, he joined them to break the fast, and it was during this time that he collapsed,” Bala explained.
Following the confirmation of his death, Usman’s remains were buried in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Muslims worldwide began fasting for Ramadan on Saturday after the sighting of the new crescent moon.
